CRANEY ISLAND OYSTER MITIGATION
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contracted Precon Marine Inc. of Chesapeake, Va., to complete Phase 2 of a 10-year, $70 million, and 411-acre environmental mitigation plan to offset ecological impacts associated with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Craney Island Eastward Expansion, or CIEE, project. Phase 2 involved the construction of six permanent sanctuary oyster reefs, totaling 16 acres.
