DD11 GRANITE BLOCK SILL – Newport News, VA
Precon was contracted to repair the granite block joints at Dry Dock 11 in order to prevent further leakage and maintain the integrity of the dry dock.
Existing mortar and any older oakum was cut and cleaned from the leaking joints. Joints were then flushed using a low-pressure washer to remove debris and contaminants. New oakum, soaked in Multigrout Hydrophilic Polyurethane was hand-packed into the joints and trimmed. All remaining space beyond the oakum was grouted using hydraulic cement to ensure a watertight seal.
